Following the summoning of the Chinese Ambassador by the Nigerian government, the Chinese government has explained why it resorted to strict measures against Nigerians and other Africans stranded in China.
Mr Zhou Pingjian, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, said the prevalence of the COVID-19 disease among Foreigners, especially Nigerians and other Africans necessitated the action so as to protect their citizens.
The diplomat explained that the Nigerians and other Africans were found to be more vulnerable given the number of those tested positive to the virus.
Pingjian agreed with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama that the measures deployed were not properly communicated to all affected.
The envoy and the minister briefed journalists on the alleged maltreatment of Nigerians stranded in China in a video that has gone viral.
Social media was agog last week as videos of alleged maltreating of Nigerians in China trended.
